CHOOSE YOUR INFLUENCE

KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Romans 12:2(NKJV)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
As the believer lives a life that is governed solely by the word of God and intolerant of other perspectives, there’s no way he/she won’t devalue the ideologies or standpoint of the world.
This means that another fruit the gospel will produce in you is increasing disdain for the things of the world.
Increasing disdain.
Let me explain this to you, friends. When you get born-again, your spirit is saved but it’s not automatic for your mind and body.
Your mind is BEING (speaking of a present continuous situation) saved while your body WILL (speaking of a future occurence)be saved.
Whereas your spirit on the other hand, is ALREADY saved.
Here’s how it plays out practically. Because you were in the world before you got saved, even though your spirit is now saved, your mind will begin to play tricks on you, you will be craving the things you used to love before and every now and then, what will happen is, you will catch yourself trying to go after the things you once went after.
It may not die immediately and that’s the place where renewing of the mind has to come.
This renewal is a deliberate action, you are to remind yourself of the new operating system(OS)which the new creature now lives by.
Our text today leaves us with an instruction. We are instructed to discontinue imitating the culture/operating system of this world, rather we are called to let our way of thinking be transformed and fashioned after the rule of God’s word alone.
In every single area of life! Nothing is exempted.
Listen friends, it is abnormal for a believer who has received the gospel to accept the world’s way of thinking as normal. And it’s so important that you are deliberate about this because it happens subtly.
So everytime you are faced with choosing between the world’s narrative/culture/tradition and what the word says, let the choice be clear.
Choose to be influenced by the WORD and cultivate disdain for the WORLD’S ideologies.
The gospel will always be counter culture so counter the culture.
REFLECTION
Do I have an increasing disdain for the culture/narratives of the world or am I tolerant of the world’s way of thinking?
DECLARATION
-I believe in the good news of the gospel, that the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus has announced the provision of forgiveness of my sins.
-I don’t just know the gospel, I live the gospel. I am transformed by the gospel. The gospel is working through me.
-The hearing of the gospel produces the fruits of Genuine Faith, Love for all the Saints and Hope of a Guaranteed Future in me.
-The fruits of the gospel are not a product of my ability but are generated supernaturally.
-The fruit of the gospel produces an increasing disdain for the things of the world.
-I am committed to renewing my mind. I yield my way of thinking to be transformed by the influence of God’s word alone.
-I am conscious of the subtle temptation to accept the world’s way of thinking as normal.
-I drop like hot potatoes any standpoint or opinion or narratives that does not line up with the truth of the gospel.
-I hold on to only what God’s word says over any issue. God’s word is the final judgement over me. There is no room for external influences.
-Daily, in every situation, I choose to counter culture both in my thought processes and in my position on issues.
-I am governed by the word of God.
