KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Hebrews 8:12 (NIV)
For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.
As a child, I always imagined God was in heaven instructing angels to write down every sin I committed. As soon as I told a lie and didn’t get a chance to plead for forgiveness then went on to say a mean word to someone, I imagined my “white board” becoming fuller.
As I grew older, it became much more difficult to keep track of my sins by myself because I discovered there were sins that I committed knowingly and unknowingly as we often say, some others just by my thoughts, words or actions.
It was impossible to keep up so I was this guilty person constantly pleading to God to have mercy and forgive me. Once I prayed and felt peaceful, I believed God had instructed an angel to wipe off my white board in preparation for my sins the next day.
But look at our memory verse today, it’s saying, God does not have a “sinometer” where he records all the wrong-doings of His children. In fact, in Isaiah 38:17, He has cast our sins behind His back! My goodness!
In 2 Corinthians 5:19, scripture reiterates the fact that God is not instructing an angel to count my sins because long before I was born, He was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting ANYONE’s sins against them.
All the prophets that spoke about the coming of Jesus spoke about God’s plan to forget our sins.
In Isaiah 43:25, God said, “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.”
See Jeremiah 31.34 too where God says He will wipe the slate clean and forget that we ever sinned!
All these prophecies have been fulfilled by the redemption work ushered in by the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. For every time He said he will not remember our sins anymore, it got fulfilled in redemption time.
What God did when dealing with the sin issue was that he didn’t focus on the sin of the world as individuals because when guilty of a sin, you are guilty of all under the law. He dealt with sin in totality and gave us the gift of righteousness.
The energy used in thinking about not falling into sin does not edify, it stems from a place of condemnation. But when you believe that your sins have been forgiven, you are free to live in freedom and liberty for your saviour. You are free from negative thoughts of not being good enough.
Through Jesus, you are free from sin.
His blood is the most expensive currency; it is far more expensive than sin. His blood didn’t cover your sins like the blood of goats and bulls did in the old testament, His blood removed every trace of sin in you like it never existed.
Be guilt-free and live for Christ! God remembers your
sins no more!
