TSP DAILY DEVOTIONAL
NO SHAME!
23rd MARCH 2020
Dr. Phil Ransom-Bello
KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Luke 22:31-32 (NLT)
“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”
If you are conversant with the story of Peter, you’d remember that the very trial of his faith that Jesus prayed for him to overcome, he fell for. When push came to shove, he denied Jesus and then wallowed in shame afterwards.
Like Peter, many of us have done the very thing or made the very decision we knew was contrary to God’s leading and afterwards, began to battle with shame.
Here’s what you must know- You are not alone.
We all have a past, something we want to forget, leave behind.
From our lessons on instructing our hearts in the past couple of weeks, you must remember that it’s important for you to frame your mind with the promise and not let past mistakes define the disposition of your heart.
You should know that shame is the tool of the devil to rob you of your experience of God’s love. And whether or not it’s secret or public, it is capable of making your service and faith walk prove more difficult than necessary.
Shame will attempt to influence your perspective if you are not careful, beginning by isolating you, feeding you lies of condemnation and then keeping you bowed in defeat but the promise of the freedom we have received through salvation in Jesus must be the higher reality that you lay claim to as a believer.
In Romams 5:17, scripture tells us that the outcome of the believer who has received the gift of righteousness is that he reigns in life. So if you are being ruled or dominated or living under the weight of shame/guilt of anything, you are not reigning.
How can you give in to the enemy’s taunts from your past mistakes when God does not remember and has in fact, cast them behind His back? (Isaiah 38:17) And if He doesn’t, then you should too.
In Christ, you’ve been justified, as though you never sinned or committed that wrong (Romans 5:1).
You’ve been made righteous! (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Let the template of your heart be that the free gift of righteousness has qualified you to win and flourish in life.
Shame lost to the cross!
