EXPRESSING THE OBJECT OF YOUR FAITH
11th June 2020
Dr. Phil Ransom-Bello

KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Colossians 1:4(ERV)
We thank him because we have heard about the faith you have in Christ Jesus and the love you have for all of God’s people.

It’s one thing to identify as a believer and it’s another thing to be able to proclaim or explain what it is you believe in. Christianity is not a faith that is incommunicable and that’s why in the preaching of the gospel, the entirety of the message is to point at the object of faith, to believe in the person of Christ. We are careful to explain to the unbeliever who he should place his faith in.

Have you ever heard someone say- “Ask God for forgiveness and you’ll be saved.”?
That bypasses the work of Christ on the cross so you are not even having a cross or blood conversation. That’s John’s baptism. In fact, let me put it this way, it’s a blood-less gospel!
Look, forgiveness is not initiated by your request, it’s not given because you asked, it has been given already by Christ’s sacrifice(Romans 3:25).

Instead of saying- “Ask for forgiveness.”
Why not say- “Receive what Jesus has done.”?
So you must ensure that the object of faith is clear.
And what is this object? Christ!
That in your preaching, you’re not just asking people to believe and be saved.
The question is- Believe in what?
It is not faith in faith, it is faith in Jesus that saves.
And so, the reason why Jesus is the object of our faith is because He is the only one who can take sins away.

So how can you be a Christian, be so familiar with God and yet know nothing about Jesus? How then can we witness effectively?
In your conversation about God, the only way it makes sense is that your preaching is amplifying what God has done through Jesus. Hallelujah!

Oh I love Jesus! He is the object of my faith.
Can you say the same?

REFLECTION
Can you communicate the object of your faith?

DECLARATION
-I believe in the gospel, therefore the seed of the gospel produces fruit in my life.
-This gospel produces the genuine markers of authentic believers; of Faith, Love and Hope in me.
-My faith is not in faith, my faith is in Christ.
-Consistently, I amplify what God has done through Jesus in the preaching of the gospel.
-The object of my faith is Christ. I know whom I have believed.
-In Christ, I have received the forgiveness of sin and
-My Christian faith is not incommunicable, I am equipped to communicate the person/object in whom my faith is.
-As the gospel produces enduring faith and love for all saints through me, God is glorified and the gospel is testified of.
Hallelujah!
