KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: 1 Corinthians 13:3(NKJV)
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
We looked at 1 Corinthians 13 yesterday and we see Paul without mincing words, say that the believer is nothing without love.
Let that sink in.
Nothing without love.
That is, everything, accomplishments, possessions, praises all pale in significance if you don’t have love.
Verse 2 says even though you have the gift of prophecy and faith, the kind of faith that moves mountains, the kind that when you make declarations, it comes to pass, the kind that makes people say- “Oh that’s an anointed man of God!”, but if with all that anointing, you don’t have love, your faith is questionable.
In 1 John 3:14, scripture says we know we’ve passed from death to life because we love the brethren. Our love is proof that we have been saved.
You see someone and it’s difficult to greet them, yet you say you have Christ, look you are just starting.
Look at verse 3 of our text.
Look at this! Isn’t all of that a demonstration of love?
You know, people usually say love is more than words, love is action.
But I’ll take it a step further- much more than the words and the action, love is from the heart. It goes through the heart.
Listen dear believer, your love ought to be more than just a show or words alone, let it be sincere and authentic, from the heart, from the fullness of the same love you’ve received from God.
Is my love just in the words or in the show of gestures?
-I believe in the good news of the gospel. That in the giving of Jesus, I am now a beneficiary of God’s grace.
-The gospel is the grace of God. I am thankful for the grace of God.
-I have come into a progressive revelation of all that the grace of God reveals.
-The cross is the proof of God’s love for me.
-My demonstration of love trumps every other virtue.
-I am secure in my identity as a believer so my love is not a function of others. I love because of who I am.
-I find it easy to love. Anyone who comes into my space is touched by and receives the same love of God I have received not hurt or hate.
-Love is my identity so I express it. I refuse to reduce my identity to nothing.
-My love is more than words or action, it is sincere and from the heart.
-My love abounds more and more.
