THE TRUE COLOUR TEST

KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: James 1:3(NKJV)
knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

In our continuing study of fruits that the gospel produces, we see that one of the fruit the gospel produces is that it will make you endure trials.
In James 1:2-3, scripture tells us clearly what our disposition to trials ought to be.
First, it says we should count it as an opportunity for joy because trials produces patience.

Let me say this to you- trials have production value and that value is PATIENCE.
If you go through trials, the gospel enables you to endure. So people who go through trials and back down are not exhibiting the fruit of the gospel that should stand trials.

I mean, just thinking about it, it’s this fruit that made the apostles, martyrs for the faith.
You couldn’t be so in touch with God’s love to the degree that the apostles did that your heart won’t yearn to reciprocate it to the point of death.

Revelations 12:11- “…and they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb…and they loved not their lives unto death.”

In other words, the things that should scare them,
they were running towards it.
Look, everybody’s going to go through trials. Everyone.
But a sign of the gospel is that you endure trials.
There are people whose faith is only active when things are fine but the testing of your faith purifies it.

The message version of that scripture puts it in an interesting way. It says trials force your faith-life out into the open and shows it’s true colours, such that if your faith shows a different colour, it means you were probably hiding under the canopy of comfort.
But you see genuine faith, it does better under the pressure of trials because it keeps in view the object of faith which is Christ.(Hebrews 12:2)

Dear believer, whenever you go through the true colour test, your faith should pass the test.

REFLECTION
Do I back down in trials or does my faith-life do better in trials?

DECLARATION
-I believe in the good news of the gospel, that the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus has announced the provision of forgiveness of my sins.
-I don’t just know the gospel, I live the gospel. I am transformed by the gospel. The gospel is working through me.
-The hearing of the gospel produces the fruits of Genuine Faith, Love for all the Saints and Hope of a Guaranteed Future in me.
-The fruits of the gospel are not a product of my ability but are generated supernaturally.
-The fruit of the gospel produces in me an endurance in trials.
-The value of patience is generated in me whenever I experience trials so I do not back down. I experience great joy in trials.
-Because my faith keeps in view the object of faith, which is Christ, I do better under pressure.
-My faith is genuine and it passes the true colour test.
-The knowledge of God’s love insulates me from the temptation to back down or give up.
