WHAT’S AHEAD OF YOU?
20th June 2020
Dr. Phil Ransom-Bello

KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Colossians 1:5(NKJV)
because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel

Have you taken the time to check if you are thinking about the hope that is ahead of you? Did you ponder on whether you have limited the hope you have in Christ to just having a good life here on earth? What is really the object of your hope?

Let me break this down. You see, everybody has something that gives them hope. To some people, it’s alcohol, to others it’s sex or drugs etc. That what gets them through a bad day at work is knowing that at the end of the day, they can drink away the sadness or difficulty of the day or hook up.
So there’s that object of hope ahead of them.
Do you know what that object does? It gives the person a sense of high to go through the pain of the now.

I don’t know what your object of hope is but if you say you know the gospel, I hope it’s the gospel.
I once asked someone if you are sad, what do you think of? Look, if you are not thinking about this hope of heaven, it means that it is not a part of your revelation.
If your major anchor is not on the joys of heaven when you are sad, it means you don’t have the revelation of the gospel to that extent.

When most of you are sad, you think of your friends or loved ones or that interesting movie series. For those of you who have watched Game of Thrones for example, you know what the anticipation does to you. You are looking forward to something. Now, if this can happen to you in the natural, how much more spiritual realities?

In Colossians 3:2, the Bible says- “Set your affection on things above not things on the earth.”
Have you seen a believer who doesn’t have money in his/her pocket but is actively thinking about when Christ will come?
If you’re not there yet as a believer, get there.
When somebody offends you, are you thinking about how to blast them and give them a piece of your mind or report them to someone? Are you thinking about anything other than gospel realities?
Look, this gospel is for here.

Speaking of Jesus while He was here, the scriptures say,
“…who for the joy that was set before Him, He endured the NOW” (Hebrews 12:2).
I want you to know that Jesus was a man who had feelings and fears. He was sorrowful unto death(Matthew 26:38)so much so that while praying at the garden, the angel of the Lord came and strengthened Him, to restore the object of His focus.
See, you need to get to that place where you must shift the object of your hope from people and things.
Move it to Christ!
This is how the gospel transforms and bears fruits in your life.

REFLECTION
Is the hope that’s ahead of me in people/material things or in Christ?

DECLARATION
-I believe in the gospel, therefore the seed of the gospel produces fruit in my life.
-I don’t just know the gospel, I live the gospel. I am transformed by the gospel. The gospel is working through me.
-This gospel produces the genuine markers of authentic believers; of Faith, Love and Hope in me.
-The hope I have received is confident, abundant, overflowing and never-ending.
-I am constantly thinking about the hope that is ahead of me. I set my affection on things above not on the earth.
-Because I have a revelation of the gospel, my anchor is on the joys of heaven.
-I am deliberate about moving the object of my hope from people and material things to Christ alone.
-I have the guaranteed hope of experiencing the joys of heaven.
Hallelujah!
