ESTABLISHED HEART
26th MARCH 2020
Dr. Phil Ransom-Bello
KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Hebrews 13:9(NKJV)
Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
If you study the fascinating story of David’s life, you will realize that David caught a glimpse of the realities that we would come to enjoy in the new covenant. The reason why he would rather fall into the hands of God rather than man as we saw yesterday, was because he knew that in the judgment of God, His mercy overwhelms judgment.
David’s understanding of God’s heart was so in tune that long before Christ came, he knew that there would be a people whose lives, whose heart, whose disposition will solely be defined by the gift of God’s righteousness and grace in forgiving their sins not by what they have done but because of their belief in Him. And He followed God on the basis of that. This is why He was listed among the heroes of faith(Hebrews 11:32).
In Romans 4:6-7; Psalms 32:1-2, we see where David prophesied this. In fact, besides Abraham, himself and a few others, not many in the old testament fully grasped God’s heart to the point where they understood that His mercy would outweigh judgment. But He was a man after God’s heart!
David saw the character of God’s heart and that’s why he could depend absolutely on God as His source.
And this explains the state of some people’s heart when wealth or money is concerned. The reason why some believers will get rich and become proud is because the heart was not fixed before the money came. Their heart in the place of service wasn’t in the right place before the promotion came and that’s why you only got to know their true nature when the money came.
In 1 Timothy 6:17, Paul tells Timothy to command the rich to trust in God and not their riches.
So you see, the believer’s heart must be right. That regardless of what happens to you, good or bad, you are solid in your confidence towards God. You can stand in the face tof weakness, calamity and trial, because you know the state of God’s heart towards you.
Friends, you must know that the state of a believer’s heart is right when it is grounded in belief and total dependence on God as the only way to please Him, with no room for human effort(Philippians 2:13 TLB).
You must know that a right heart is a heart that is established in grace.
It’s a heart that finds satisfaction and conviction in the truth about God’s disposition towards you;
That He is good and gracious to you.
That He is not keeping record of your sins.
That He has blessed you.
That He calls you righteous.
