THE CROSS BROUGHT PEACE
19th August 2020

KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Romans 5:1(NKJV)
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
As we continue to study the expressions of the grace of God as demonstrated on the cross of Jesus, it is important to understand that the cross is also the highest demonstration of the peace of God.
Just as we have seen how the cross demonstrates the power of God, the wisdom of God and the righteousness of God, the cross also reveals the peace of God.
In Romans 5:1, scripture tells us that we have peace with God.
Let me point out to you that there is a difference between peace with God and peace of God.
Peace with God is what your justification did for you.
Quick example- Imagine I was quarrelling with person A. The moment I come to him/her and we settle the dispute, I have peace with him/her.
Dear believer, this was your state.
You and God were not at peace. There was a huge gulf that separated you from God and nothing could ever bring you together.
See how Isaiah 59 puts it- it says God’s hand isn’t too short to save us or his ears devoid of hearing but man’s sins separated him from God and hid His face.
So there is a huge gulf between the unbeliever and God but when he/she comes into Christ through faith in Jesus Christ, he/she receives peace with God.
The peace you have as a believer is called Peace with God.
In other words, there is no more partition, no more separation, no more enmity between you and God. Friends, God is not angry with you!
Don’t let the lies of the devil affect your relationship with God.
You have been justified by faith so you’ve got access! Access to every benefit of the cross.
And how amazing it is to know that the cross brought peace.
That this peace with God is a function/working of Jesus on the cross.
That a cross which ordinarily looks like a horrifying way to die and which doesn’t look like a medium of reconciliation has become the means by which peace between God and man was restored.
The wisdom of God is truly incredible!
Hallelujah!
