KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: 1 John 4:12(NKJV)
No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.
Looking at our text from 1 John 4 yesterday, we see that the love we’ve received has an obligation and this obligation is to love others.
But in the next verse, scripture tells us that when we love others, it means God abides in us and His love has been perfected in us. That is, it’s a sign that His love has come to full expression in us.
Think about that!
Every child of God needs to understand that when God’s love comes into your heart, that love is not perfected yet if the love doesn’t get to someone else.
Listen, this is not hard work or a weighty commandment. Why? Because as a believer, you’re not trying to love from yourself, instead, you are loving from what you’ve received from God.
And this is a love that is tireless and never-ending, so when you get tired, you’ve got to confirm that you are not loving from your natural ability but from the love you’ve received.
For the believer to perfect the love he has received, is to let the love flow through him/her to somebody else.
Now, let’s flip back to verse 7;
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God
Look, you can’t say you know God if you don’t love because God is love.
In fact, a marker of genuine faith or the first thing you see in a believer is that he/she loves genuinely and deeply. When you come to Christ, you receive an increase in capacity to love.
Friends, this love is not passive, it’s active, it’s aggressive, it’s reckless and we only need to look at the cross to see this(I John 4:9-10).
And if this love is completed, brought to full expression when we love, how can we hold back from loving others?
Dear believer, God abides in you, so let it be evident in the way you love others.
REFLECTION
Is the love of God brought to full expression in me?
DECLARATION
-I believe in the good news of the gospel, that the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus has announced the provision of forgiveness of my sins.
-I don’t just know the gospel, I live the gospel. I am transformed by the gospel. The gospel is working through me.
-The hearing of the gospel produces the fruits of Genuine Faith, Love for all the Saints and Hope of a Guaranteed Future in me.
-The fruits of the gospel are not a product of my ability but are generated supernaturally.
-My love source is God. I love because I have been loved. I keep my view steady on the love of God.
God’s love is brought to full expression within me. I’m a free-flowing dispenser of the love of God.
-I have received an increase in my capacity to love.
-I do not hold back from loving. The quality of the love I give is not passive but is just as active, sacrificial and lavish as the love of God.
Praise God!
