KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Hebrews 10:39(ERV)
But we are not those who turn back and are lost. No, we are the people who have faith and are saved.
When we began the conversation on the fruits of the gospel, we highlighted three fruits:
-Persevering Faith
-Love for all the saints
-Hope of a guaranteed future.
And over the last couple of days, we’ve seen in practical terms how the faith and love that the gospel produces ought to be expressed.
We’ve learnt that our faith should speak about what it believes, our faith should persevere(present continuous) and our love should be for all the saints(unconditional).
An additional marker of the gospel is that it will produce hope in your heart(Colossians 1:5). Hope of the joys of heaven. It’s the hope of a guaranteed future.
And we ought to be familiar with all three- Faith, Love and Hope because these are the genuine markers of authentic believers.
If you remember, we learnt that the characteristic of faith which the gospel produces is faith that is enduring. The faith of the believers at Colosse was enduring. It wasn’t just a fireworks of emotions. You know how sometimes you just believe God because you came from a prayer meeting but after you left the prayer meeting, life threw some unpleasant storms at you and then you lost faith, you stopped believing.
Look, the marker of genuine faith is that it will persevere till the end.
In Luke 18:6 where Jesus shared the parable of the unjust judge and the widow, we see a judge who is not even just or good testifying of God’s willingness to avenge His elect. The word Elect in that scripture is referring to those of us who are saved. The meaning of the word- “Church” is the called out ones. Ecclessia
Verse 8 conludes by asking- Will Jesus find faith on the earth when he returns?
So the question is faith that lasts till the end.
Hebrews 10:38 says the just shall live by faith. In other words, make sure that as you started in faith, you are living, you are going in faith. Colossians 2:6 says as you have received the Lord, so walk in Him.
This is the reality we have been called to the moment we believe the gospel.
And just as our text says, we are not of them that draw back, but we are those who believe to the saving of the soul.
Let your faith persevere till the end.
REFLECTION
Is my faith a mere firework of emotions or is it enduring?
DECLARATION
-I believe in the gospel, therefore the seed of the gospel produces fruit in my life.
-I not only believe the gospel, I live the gospel.
-The gospel produces the genuine markers of authentic believers; of Faith, Love and Hopein me.
-My faith is not just a firework of emotions. It perseveres till the end.
-I do not give in or give up to life’s challenges/storms. I believe God.
-As I started in faith, I am living and going on in faith.
-I am reasurred of God’s ultimate salvation plan for the elect, therefore my faith will not fail.
-As the gospel produces enduring faith and love for all saints through me, God is glorified and the gospel is testified of.
