THE NATURE OF GOD
2nd May 2020
Dr. Phil Ransom-Bello
KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Romans 5:8(KJV)
_ “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”_
Did you notice that more than ever before, there’s been an increased confidence in believers to share their faith?
Do you see how in these times where many people are grappling with existential challenges they never imagined they’d face, its become apparent that the gospel is the answer to every human question?
From sharing videos online to virtual church services to links for resources on the gospel, many people are communicating their faith in Jesus and spreading the good news of His love and the hope that He gives to others.
Dear friends, this is the ultimate goal!
Paul in Philippians 3:12, told them that the sum of his experiences (both good and bad) was for the purpose of furthering, advancing the gospel.
Friends, its for the furtherance of the gospel!
Usually, when a conversation about God comes up, more often than not, it always points back to questions about the nature of God. One that’s very misunderstood.
You see, it is important to know that the only way to understand God’s nature is by the unveiling of the gospel. If the gospel is too-good-to-be-true news, then it can only be a reflection of a God whose nature is good and that goodness is too-good-to-be-true.
When we say that God, because of His love and rich kindness, sent His son to take your place and by that sacrifice, declares you forgiven, redeemed and restored(Ephesians 1:7), then we are saying that the state of God’s heart has and will always be good towards mankind.
In 1 John 4:7, scripture says that God is love. This nature has been consistent from the beginning. Every action He ever took from the creation of man to the fall and up till the redemption of man is good. He even took Adam and Eve out of love so that they would not be tempted to eat the tree of life and live forever in that fallen state and be unable to experience redemption(Genesis 3:22-24)
Wow! What manner of love!
We probably think God cut off communication with Adam in anger or as punishment after the incident in Eden but looking at the story of Cain and Abel you see that they continued to have some form of relationship with God and where He would have punished Cain the first murderer, He had mercy. Is that not a God whose nature is good and loving?
Romans 2:4 says it is His goodness that leads to repentance. And as our text puts it, even while we were still sinners, He died for us.
Friends, God is good. God is loving.
This is the foundation on which the cross and all He did in Christ was built on (John 3:16)
This is the gospel!
The world needs to know this!
