WHAT ARE YOU BUILDING ON?
12th September 2020
Dr. Phil Ransom-Bello
KEY SCRIPTURE/MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 7:24-25(NKJV)
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
It is important to keep our focus on the word because we have an assurance that the word always wins. So don’t allow experiences affect your response to the Word.
But you see, what happens to most believers is that from the moment of delivery to the point of execution, the word is lost.
In one of his sermons, Steve Furtick calls it “Death by Distraction” and he gives the analogy of a man who is sentenced to death as a result of the offence he committed and the way that he is executed is that there are four horses, with each one pulling at his limbs in different directions.
It’s a barbaric way of killing a person but it is defined as death by distraction because you are pulled in different directions.
You see, there are many things that are dead or have died as a result of distraction. There are many potentials we would have come into if we were not distracted, if we stayed put on the word.
You know when the Bible is talking about the one who builds his house on the rock and the one who builds it on the sand in Matthew 7?
The crux of that conversation is how deeply rooted you are based on what you know because life will always test what you know.
Here’s my admonition this morning- Learn to differentiate the wiles of the devil. And these wiles aren’t obvious, they are subtle fights. Subtle philosophies, subtle concepts that are not God but look like Him.
Look, let your foundation be the word not alternative ideas or concepts. Stay put on the Word.
Be the one who builds on the rock.
That’s the only way to win over distractions and the storms pulling at you.
Have I been distracted by concepts and ideas or am I founded on the Word?
-I believe in the good news of the gospel and my life is hinged on the truth of the gospel.
-The seed of God’s word finds good ground in me.
-I build with the word and I pull down opposing, pre-existing ideas.
-I’m not distracted nor is the word snatched by devices or distraction.
-I keep the words I have received and they grow to application time. I cultivate diligently every word I have received. The Word is not lost between the delivery to execution time.
-I will not be changed by experiences nor allow my capacities to be affected. Instead, I go through them as tests that affirm or solidify what I really believe.
-I have an assurance that the word always wins so I stay put and come into every potential, every promise, every possibility that the Word avails.
-I am building on the rock of God’s word and because of where I am founded, I win over distractions and storms.
